Campout Fall 2009

Weather was on our side for the most part, with drizzle on Friday during the drive, but nothing once we got there, and some cool overnight temperatures both nights.<br />n<br />nOn Saturday morning, our circle, the Tahoe Circle, had craft duty. We brought with us two different crafts from Oriental Trading: a Magic Color Scratch pack in various shapes for ornaments, and a bear coin purse necklace. Both were easy but still took some time to make, they were not messy, and needed no glue (other than some glue dots). Both were a hit, and we kept getting positive comments from the dads.<br />n<br />nAfter lunch, we hit the zip line for an extended period. Penny <strong>loves</strong> the zip line, and she rode it about 10 times before we finally finished. We also did the scavenger hunt, learning all about different kinds of bugs.<br />n<br />nThat night, we all gathered around the stage to welcome new members as well as one new Circle, too. We were reminded of the four directions and <a href=”http://www.ymca.net/adventureguides/ag_video_about_compass.html” title=”compass”>what they stand for in this Adventure Guides program</a> (<em>note: video embedded in that link</em>):<br />n<br />nNorth: Family<br />nSouth: Community<br />nEast: Nature<br />nWest: Fun<br />n<br />nAfter the formalities, we got to watch the skits that all the Circles had been practicing. Some were cute, some were funny, and one or two didn’t seem too coherent. We ran the gamut!<br />n<br />nSunday found us on the rock wall and doing another craft, painting a couple of wooden bugs. By the time lunch rolled around, we were already packed up and ready to eat, then check out.<br />n<br />nIt was great to get away, even for less than 48 hours. Spending time in the Santa Cruz mountains, close as they may be, always makes me feel like we traveled far away and were gone a long time.<br />n<br />nThere is talk of having the spring campout at a beach. Not sure if I would be up for that, but if Penny lobbies hard enough for it, we just may cave in to pressure.
