Sierra at Tahoe

How long has it been since we’ve gone snow skiing? Let’s see, for Rita, it was before Penny was born. I’ll say it’s been about seven years.
n
nFor me, I was able to go once when we had the cabin at Buckhorn, so maybe about five years. Yep, long time.
n
nWe finally broke that dry spell by going to Sierra at Tahoe yesterday. Nice thing about that place is that they have a lift ticket called <a href=”http://www.sierraattahoe.com/info/winter/lift-tickets.asp#parent” title=”parent predicament lift ticket”>Parent Predicament. That’s basically one regular priced ticket that you can swap back and forth between mom and dad all day. Really, it’s the same thing that parents have been doing forever, swapping out the jacket to which the ticket is affixed, but this deal makes it legal. Good job, ski resort!
n
nHarold hung out mostly in the carrier all day, or at the ‘base camp’ we established in the cafe. The times when I was with him, he’d start to really miss his mama and cry for a while. Nothing new here, please move along.
n
nPenny was having doubts about trying out this whole skiing thing, but finally decided to have a go at it. We got her into a group class that included lunch, play time, lessons, lift ticket and rentals. Here she is just before heading into this class/daycare.
n
n<a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaworskihouse/4369700679/” title=”Tahoe Penny, on Flickr”><img src=”http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/4369700679_8864ac1112_m.jpg” width=”240″ height=”160″ alt=”Tahoe Penny” />
n
nRita took the first and third turn on the mountain while I took a longer second turn. It’s been so long, and I was never that great anyway, so I was nervous. Started with four rides up the Easy Rider lift to Broadway and soon found it to be a bit too easy. So next up was the Grandview Express, which takes you to the top of the mountain. There is an Easy Way Down, all the way down, called Sugar and Spice. It really is pretty much Everything Nice, with just a couple of steeper sections just for fun.
n
nMy last run was on the back side of the mountain, Wagon Trail. It was still an all-green run, but it was less crowded, narrower in some places, and ended at another small lift called Short Stuff, which connected back to Sugar and Spice.
n
nOverall? Two thumbs up! We can see ourselves coming back here again.
