Disqualified Again

<a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/canadianbloodservices/4911170960/” title=”Blood donation by Canadian Blood Services, on Flickr”><img src=”http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4136/4911170960_20af9176ba_n.jpg” width=”213″ height=”320″ alt=”Blood donation”></a><br />n<br />nI went to give blood today at work since <a href=”http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu/” title=”stanford blood center”>Stanford Blood Center</a> comes to our campus to make it easier for us to donate. They have one heck of a questionnaire you have to fill out, including where you’ve been in the last 3 or 25 years. Told them I was in India a couple months ago. Since India is a place that has malaria, it disqualified me from giving blood for a year. So I’m not eligible again until March of 2013. Bummer, especially since I have a fairly rare quality of blood, not so much the blood type, but the fact that <a href=”http://www.ehow.com/facts_5716963_definition-cmv_negative-blood.html” title=”CMV negative blood”>I test negative</a> for antibodies to <a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cytomegalovirus” title=”cytomegalovirus”>cytomegalovirus</a> (CMV) which makes my blood uniquely qualified for transfusion to premature babies.<br />n<br />nYou may recall that after my <a href=”https://www.jaworskihouse.com/blog/index.php?/archives/278-Oral-Surgery.html” title=”oral surgery”>periodontic surgery in 2010</a>, I was unable to give blood for a year.<br />n<br />nI need to be sure to set up an appointment with them as soon as I’m eligible again, next year.<br />n<br />n<em>Photo courtesy cc licensed Flickr user <a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/canadianbloodservices/” title=”canadian blood services”>Canadian Blood Services</a>.</em><br />n<br />n.
