This afternoon we took Harold to the doctor for his four month check up, at which the plan is to give him some shots.
They measured him and, as expected, he came out near the top of the list with respect to height and weight. For height, he measured 26.5 inches (67.3 cm), which is in the 90th percentile. In weight, this big boy registered 17 lbs, 10 oz (7.99 kg), in the 95th percentile.
We have one big kid. Who is healthy and developing normally.
He also got a couple of shots in his chubby thigh. He certainly felt the needles go in, and as expected, he screamed enough to make his whole head go red. But once it was all finished, with the round kiddie band aids in place, he only cried for another 5 or 10 minutes. Hanging on to mama really helps one's nerves to calm down.
Next appointment is at 6 months, with another round of shots, I'm sure.
I have an older pair of shoes, Sketchers is the brand, that I bought in 2000, no later than 2001. These things have been workhorses. Been wearing them to work pretty regularly since. Actually, I had two of the same pair (don't ask why), and so I switched between them over the years. They both got a good run for my money.
One pair just got too worn, so about a year ago, I let them go. This remaining pair I've continued to wear until the soles started to wear through, with a hole on the heel and a crack across the wide part of the foot. These won't do in wet weather that's coming up.
There is a little shoe repair shop in the plaza near the house. I decided to take them there and see what shoe repair is all about. Dropped them off on a Monday and the proprietor said they'd be ready the following Saturday. (Does it really take that long? They guy was sitting with his buddy sharing a smoke when I came in, fer cryin out loud.)
I came back a week later to pick them up, having no idea what to expect in terms of cost. When he rang it up, I wonder now if he heard the thud when my mandible crashed to the ground. How much was I expecting? Maybe twenty bucks. How much was it? Over three times that!
I didn't say anything about it, didn't make any snide remarks. After all, he is a small business owner who has been at this location for lots of years, who will be displaced once the owners of the property finally decide to sell out. But these Chinese made shoes (aren't they all?), this really is an argument to just trash the old and get a full new pair. Economics. Argh.
I had a cold over the weekend. It started coming on late Thursday, and Friday it just continued to build. It didn't really affect our Halloween activities luckily, and I attribute that to lots of cups of Echinacea tea.
I'm typically not a true believer in herbal remedies and such, but this really did seem to work for me over the weekend. I kept going with it strong all day during our rainy Saturday. Though Saturday was the worse day for my cold, with a bit of ache in the bones and slight headache now and again, it never developed into a full blown cold.
Sunday, I kept the tea going strong as well, and the cold was already on its way out. Monday, I'm feeling much better, but I need to rid myself of it fully in preparation for the camping trip this weekend!
