Today is the second to the last day of Kindergarten for Harold. Bittersweet: Nice to see him moving on, developing, growing and all that good stuff. But at the same time, where is my Harwood Hills preschooler? (Answer: Long gone.)
Mama Rita was down sick with a tummy bug this morning, so I went to school to witness the kinder field party. What a blast it was! Not even 9AM and they had water balloon toss, bubbles, picture painting, face painting and more. Only in kindergarten can you have a party start that early and everyone has fun. To only be again.
Here are a few pics from the grand gala...
When I got there, Harold had finished up a painting and needed help hanging it up to dry.
And now he's readying for a water balloon fight!
He's got a bit of a mean look in his eye, doesn't he?!?
And now, he's up against the Pro's! Ms. Peterson!
She got him!
This one shows the field, and shows the marine layer poking over the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, threatening Los Gatos.
Poor Harold. He was at a friend's preschool graduation party on Sunday, and he had a blast. Until the very end, that is. You see, he really, really wanted the shiny balloon that said "Happy Graduation 2014", and the parents of the grad graciously gave it to him. The dad even tied it to Harold's wrist so it wouldn't escape.
A few moments later, we heard an anxious scream. All parental heads quickly turned in the direction of the commotion. There was Harold, a scared look on his face, head tilted back, his eyes looking up at his beloved balloon floating away into the bright, blue yonder.
He was so upset. We tried to calm him down, tears streaming down his face. He was in full sob mode. He really, really liked that one balloon, and now it's gone! He continued, "I wish I had a bird friend." Bird friend. Yes, such a friend could go after it, grab the string and bring it back to him. What a great thought. With such a tiny broken heart, I wish he had a bird friend too.
Isn't that cool, the stuff that pops into the minds of young ones?
